EBTECH INDUSTRIAL announces agreement with PPG for modular ballistic and blast protection panel systems

Partnership creates ‘ideal solution’ for global modular building protection

CONNELLSVILLE, PA, Dec. 7, 2009: Ebtech Industrial has entered into an agreement with PPG Industries’ (NYSE:PPG) fiber glass business under which PPG will manufacture Mil-Tough inorganic composite binder (ICB) blast and ballistics panels that Ebtech Industrial will market and sell to customers for building and asset protection.

A global supplier of modular protective systems, Ebtech Industrial designs, manufactures and installs rapid-deployment, customizable systems that offer multiple levels of blast and ballistics protection for new, temporary and existing structures. The company has created multi-story installations for U.S. troops serving overseas.

PPG’s portfolio of solutions for blast and ballistics applications recently expanded with the introduction of Mil-Tough™ ICB panels. These precast, fiber glass-reinforced panels offer strong blast and ballistics resistance in thinner, lighter forms than possible with traditional steel-reinforced concrete systems, according to Kevin Richardson, market development manager, PPG Fiber Glass. "In addition to protecting reliably in testing against various National Institute of Justice ballistics and Government Services Administration blast threat levels, the technology also offers excellent resistance to high temperatures and fire," he said. The ICB panel technology may also be enhanced to incorporate PPG’s Mil-Tough™ SM "Spall Master" polyurea coating, which adds protection against ballistic fragmentation to the blast resistant wall.

Ebtech Industrial President Mario Kyd said, "By combining PPG's new panel technology with Ebtech Industrial’s expertise in creating customizable, rapid-deployment modular systems, we can offer customers an ideal solution for protection where and when it’s most needed in areas of conflict around the globe. Additionally, we can help customers to contain costs by providing an advanced blast- and ballistics-mitigation system that is reconfigurable to support multiple missions."

Going For Green

4/15/2009: Green means lots of things to lots of people. It's quite the buzz word these days. Seems everybody is trying to "green up" their products or projects. From a manufacturing standpoint, it just makes sense. We all want to lower our impact on the environment in any way we can. But from a sales perspective, it can make all the difference in the world. If you can show that your product has a lower carbon footprint than your competitor's - then you've got an edge. Many building contracts are being awarded based primarily on green initiatives.

The good news is that the entire modular building industry is inherently green when compared to just about any other traditional building method.

The whole nature of modularity allows for greater materials recycling, reuse and repurposing. The challenge is to be able to sell this concept and leverage it as the positive feature that it actually is. You need to be educated and confident about the ways modular construction can claim its rightful green status and work it into your repertoire. So let's look at some of the green talking points:

  • Faster build times means less downtime, which means less waste (power, water, labor, electricity) all around.
  • When compared to conventional construction techniques, modular systems are designed to be relocated, reconfigured and repurposed with a project's changing needs. There's nothing greener than a building that you can pick up and move when you need to repurpose it.
  • Ebtech Mezzanines and In-Plant Offices make use of existing space, which can reduce the need for physical expansion and resource allocation.
  • Factory-assembled, off-site construction allows for much greater control of waste as well as more efficient recycling of materials.
  • Transportation costs (and by association, air pollution) is cut way down by centralizing job sites and consolidating delivery sites and volume.
  • Ebtech's pre-textured and pre-colored panels reduce the environmental impact of material volume and VOC gas released from painting as well as water associated with cleanup from "stick-built" construction.
  • Panel-built construction reuses and recycles traditional waste products like steel, wood, aluminum and paper.

These are just some of the main aspects of modular construction's GREEN nature. You'll probably think of more. As our world's needs change, modular construction is best suited to change with it. So let's start thinking GREEN in our selling so we can start seeing more GREEN from our sales!

Exercise Your Options

4/3/2009: Ebtech's building solutions are based on creating Standardized Systems for Custom Configurations. "The beauty and simplicity of our systems is that the materials manufacturing process has been standardized so that they all work together like clockwork," says Ebtech CEO Don Travis, "but then you can plan and assemble just about anything you need with them. There's no single end project plan. We are asked for [and provide] new project configurations every week."

Even within the standardized panels that Ebtech manufactures, there are loads of options. Panels can be skinned with Steel, Aluminum, FRP, Gypsum or Hardboard and our Premier Panels can be specified with color and texture choices limited only by the imagination, and the wall requirements. Ebtech has provided Fiber-Reinforced Plastic (FRP) panels in an amazing array of colors and Hardboard panels in beautiful woodgrain finishes that defy normal expectations surrounding modular industrial construction.

Keepin' It Clean

2/23/2009: Cleanroom Systems lead the way in creating high quality modular environments. When Ebtech dealer needed to provide a clean environment for their client Huf North America they turned to Ebtech.

Tennessee-based Huf is a division of the Huf Hülsbeck & Fürst, a German company that specializes in automotive access and security systems. The Greeneville, Tennessee plant needed a structure that would keep the particulate density down for their specialized electronic key-head component assembly equipment.

In an industry where few projects are ever the same, LRM Corp prides themselves on handling unique and challenging tasks and offering the right solutions. LRM has been using Ebtech materials for years. Lynn Roberts of LRM spec'd out an Ebtech structure for the job.

"We could have used anyone's products, but other companies' windows don't handle the way Ebtech's do," said Roberts, "Ebtech's reversible windows allowed us to insert them so that there were no internal-side ledges for dust to collect on."

LRM also facilitated the installation of a non-conductive floor, drag chains in the furniture and a separate air conditioning unit that controls humidity all designed to render the structure as static-free and particle-reduced as needed.
